That’s really great! Blatant land grabs are a much less common agenda for the power establishment nowadays, but installing a sympathetic Yeltsin-like government who’d allow them to exploit Russian land and resources could totally happen. At the very least they clearly want a Russian government that will stop making bold maneuvers like moving away from the US dollar as a reserve currency, annexing Crimea and intervening in Syria.
