I’m not serious, but I do find the idea a very easy way to show up the power imbalance between men and women and it immediately shines a light on showing up why the decision must be left up to the woman. While bearing and rearing a child takes an enormous toll on the woman financially, socially, physically, creatively, career-wise, retirement-wise, health-wise etc, the father can opt-in or out with little to no fuss.

That’s just the reality. Until child-bearing and child-rearing is valued in the same way as any other work — ie with money, retirement benefits, health insurance etc — then of course women’s freedom to choose the direction of the whole rest of her life must be up to her.

I write about the end of illusions.
