I understand all of that but like you said, all of that still distills down to point seven. At the EUROCSE conference two weeks ago where many of the players you mention gathered to nut out solution after solution. There was heated discussion of course, and there was acknowledgement that there was much work to be done, but they in the end the Syrians came together to sing “Mawtini” and Mother Agnès-mariam de la Croix said these prescient words “between Syrians there is no conflict, there are only solutions.”
They walked out of that conference in solidarity, into the sunshine, only to find out that while they were working hard on fixing all of this, the US had launched a cruise missile attack on a Syrian airfield, without any investigation, without UN approval, without even Congress debating, starting the whole thing up again.
We have to get the fuck out of the way and let them find their solutions. Not our circus, not our monkeys, doesn’t matter how complicated you seek to make it (and I sometimes think that our tribe particularly, the intelligentsia, just enjoy reeling off their knowledge of the various exotic-sounding factions, they’re not as interested in seeking wisdom as they are in showing off) in the end the US cannot be allowed to get away with fucking something up so completely that we let them stay there to fuck it up even further. That was their argument on Iraq and forgive me if I’m wrong, it seems to be the one you are alluding to now.
They are shit at this. They don’t understand the cultural dynamics and they always do much more harm than good. It’s time for the world to say nope. Enough.
