I agree, only I would say authentic meditation is about feeling precisely what you’re feeling and facing life head first. In practice many forms of meditation are used to focus attention, slow down thoughts for a bit, relieve stress, and generally dissociate from what’s going on. Literally any spiritual tool can be co-opted by the ego for egoic purposes, and usually is. Meditation is certainly no exception.
